People come to an awareness of their desire to learn about membership in the Catholic Church in various ways. It may be a personal faith experience, overcoming a personal difficulty or relationship, or a discussion with a person of faith that leads one to begin this exciting journey. All that is truly required is a sincere desire to learn, grow, and develop one’s relationship with God.

Participating in OCIA does not imply a commitment to join the Catholic Church. For those who desire to become a member of the Catholic Church, the OCIA process prepares them to receive the sacraments of Christian initiation (Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist) at the Easter Vigil.

For more information, contact Mary Kramer at (585) 265-1616 ext. 306 or mary.kramer@dor.org.

Order of Christian Initiation of Children

(OCIA Adapted for Children)

This special program is intended for children who have reached the age of reason (7 years old) who have not been baptized and want to join the Catholic Church. They seek Christian initiation either at the direction of their parents or guardians or, with parental permission, on their own initiative. During this process, the children will receive a better understanding of what it means to know and love God through age-appropriate materials and instruction.

For more information or to register for this program, please contact Tricia Kull at (585) 265-4750 or tricia.kull@dor.org.

Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults is a spiritual journey for adults discerning God’s call to explore their faith, or who wish to learn about the Catholic Church.
