A couple simple ones come to mind:<br \/>\n&#8211;It&#8217;s a place that has a church building and a parking lot.<br \/>\n&#8211;It&#8217;s where I go to mass on Sunday.<br \/>\n&#8211;It&#8217;s where you belong, so when the time comes, you can get married or buried.<\/p>\n<p>Canon Law (rules for church governance) says a parish is a geographical area in which baptized Catholics reside and are offered spiritual aid (religious education and the sacraments).<\/p>\n<p>But this description is rather dry and formal. What is your description? . . . not just any parish but your parish . . . what describes the parish you want to belong to? Here&#8217;s mine.<\/p>\n<p>I want my parish to be:<\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-left:10px;\">\n<li>A place where I can find peace in times of trouble.<\/li>\n<li>A people who try to do what Christ did.<\/li>\n<li>A place where I am welcomed just as I am.<\/li>\n<li>A place where I can learn and grow in my faith.<\/li>\n<li>A people who are humble and quick to know where we need to do better.<\/li>\n<li>A people who welcome and learn from the &#8220;newcomer&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>Where I experience God in the liturgy.<\/li>\n<li>Where I see and hear about opportunities to help others.<\/li>\n<li>Where our children learn about Christ in a formative and compelling way.<\/li>\n<li>Where my faith finds practical and creative ways to aid the complex problems of the world.<\/li>\n<li>Where I can grow in my faith and knowledge of God.<\/li>\n<li>Where I can learn how to pray.<\/li>\n<li>Where I meet fun, happy, kind and gentle people.<\/li>\n<li>Where hope is renewed.<\/li>\n<li>Where I am continually invited and connected to effective social ministry.<\/li>\n<li>Where I learn how to bring Christ to others . . .<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I could list about 50 more, but it would only bore you. Anyway these are my hopes for this parish . . . Holy Trinity. We are not perfect by any means . . . but we&#8217;re trying. I hope you find something of interest in the weekly bulletin\/web site.
