I\u2019ve never been much of a joiner of clubs. Let\u2019s see . . . I\nwas a Cub Scout for about three weeks. We had the 15th\nStreet Raiders on my block as a kid. I joined the Camera\nClub in high school and a book club somewhere along\nthe way. That was about it for clubs.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some of them had certain rules and regulations and secrets. I can\u2019t remember the \u201cRaider Handshake\u201d but it let us know who was \u201cin\u201d and who wasn\u2019t. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes we tend to think of religion as a club. The\nCatholic Club. There is an initiation (Baptism). It\u2019s got\nrules (10 Commandments). It has a leader (Pope). And\nthere are dues (pass that basket!).\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But this view of the Catholic Church tends to liken it to a\nmerely human organization like Kiwanis, or Rotary, or\nSierra Club. (These are great organizations by the way.\nThey do much good for our community.) However, each\nof them receives its origin and purpose from its human\nfounder, and does not profess to be able to connect its\nmembers to God or Eternal Life.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s not the way it is with the Catholic Church. It\u2019s not a club or even an \u201corganization\u201d founded for some beneficent purpose. It is the living, mystical (spiritual yet physical) body of its founder, Jesus Christ, God\u2019s only begotten Son. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yes, the Church is Christ\u2019s Body. We are its members\nand are connected with each other as fingers on a hand. .\nChrist\u2019s Hand! Together, empowered by the Holy Spirit,\nwe make up the person of Christ in the world.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The power and beauty of who we are in Christ makes it\nall the more painful when we hear of the failures of those\nmost trusted with the Faith.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

News headlines today tell us how some in the Catholic Clergy have failed to live as that presence and have betrayed the trust of so many in the Church. (In every age the church has both saints and sinners as its members and thereby, stands in constant need of purification.) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But this does not change the fact that God has adopted us as sons and daughters. We become \u201cco-heirs with Christ\u201d to Eternal Life. \u201cIn Him we live, and move, and have our being.\u201d Acts 17: 28<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To our friends who are searching . . . <\/p>\n\n\n\n

How about you? Would you like to join – – – not a club! –\n– – but a group of people who are searching for God in\ntheir life? Would you like to talk with others who, like\nyourself, are trying to figure out what life is about and\nhow we might find some bit of happiness while we are on\nthis earth.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Would you like to learn what the Catholic Church teaches\nabout the meaning of our lives, about God and how we\ncan know Him? Would you like to be free to question and\nmaybe disagree with some of what you are hearing? Well\ncome along!\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This group is called the RCIA <\/strong>(The Rite of Christian Initiation). It starts SUNDAY, <\/strong>October 6, AFTER THE 10:30 MASS <\/strong>(@11:45 am.), below the church in the Marian Room. Meetings last one hour and we think you\u2019ll find the discussion interesting and fun. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There will be no pressure whatsoever for you to become\nCatholic. However, if during the sessions you feel God\nmay be inviting you to join the Body of Christ, that will\nbe your gift come this Easter!!\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
